The story behind 30 Fathoms — and its fish-mad founder, Matt;

Raised on the NSW North Coast, Matt has spent a lifetime with salt on his skin: fishing, surfing and boating.  He’s explored Arnhem Land billabongs stacked with barra, battled giant trevally on remote coral atolls, chased thumping snapper in the shallows, and gets totally psyched catching pelagics like:  marlin, Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, kingies, cobia and mackerel.  As a kid he paddled kilometres to offshore islands on a converted windsurfer hull—long before sea kayaks were a thing—chasing  blue groper, snapper, kings and tailor. It’s that sense of adventure Matt  wants 30 Fathoms to bring to your fishing and cooking!

Yet some of Matt’s favorite memories are the quiet ones: catching whiting with his grandma in Ballina and, four generations later, with his own kids at Brunswick Heads. Fishing connects us to the ocean, fuels adventure and forges lifelong memories with the people we love.

Matt shares the same inspiration and passion for food!   Matt has owned a restaurant, spent years marketing premium meat to top chefs and, for more than a decade, refined the craft of cold smoking. Matt genuinely loves to share the passion for fishing and the inspiration for amazing food!
